Lib Dems Fight 'Top Up' Fees
Local students could soon be facing huge bills to attend university under new Government plans. Despite past promises, Labour are considering the introduction of 'top up' fees of around £10,000 to attend university.
Lib Dem Campaigner Peter Carroll condemned the move saying, "Labour first introduced tuition fees and now it looks like top up fees are on the way. The only result of this will be to stop less well off students going to university."
Parents of all incomes will be concerned about where they might find the predicted £10,000. Peter continued, "Like many people who came from a less well off background, I can safely say I would not have been able to live the life I lead now if I had not been to university. Now a Labour Government is talking about denying the same opportunity to young people. It is a disgrace."
Tuition Fees dropped in Scotland
It is a different picture in Scotland where the Lib Dems have managed to get tuition fees dropped. Charles Kennedy's party are now stepping up their efforts to drop tuition fees in England and Wales too.
Peter Carroll said, "The future of our country depends on having a skilled workforce as well as good teachers and more doctors. How is this going to happen if large numbers of young people are prevented from going to university by the cost?"
