The Lib Dems have launched their County Council election campaign with a call to abolish the unfair Council Tax.

Kent has been run by the Conservatives since 1997 and Council Tax bills have nearly doubled since then. This is despite promises to keep tax rises down.

Cllr Peter Smith said, "Council Tax should be scrapped. It is unfair because it bears no relation to ability to pay. Pensioners and those on low incomes are hardest hit."

The Tory County Council has failed to fund local schools properly and have allowed the condition of Kent's roads to get much worse.

Cllr Neil Matthews said, "The Tories have broken their promises. It's time for a change here in Kent."
