Shepway Liberal Democrats have announced that they will be contesting the elections taking place in June to elect Town Councils for Folkestone and Sandgate.

Local Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman, Peter Carroll said "I am pleased that my party will be contesting these elections. We campaign on local issues all year round. Our District Councillors are people who really care about their local community. It would be bizarre if our party did not want to be actively involved in these new Town Councils to help make our area better."

Local Party Chairman, Cllr John Hughes said "I understand that some people will feel that these Councils should be non-political. But politics is all about helping people and improving our area. It is better that candidates stand under party colours, honestly and openly, so that local people understand who they are voting for."
