Lib Dems vote to re-open toilets

Public Toilets

Lib Dem Councillors have voted to re-open Shepway's toilets at a group meeting last night.

The plan, which will mean every toilet in the district re-opening, will now go to the next Cabinet meeting for formal approval.

Cllr Linda Cufley said, "The people have Shepway have spoken clearly on this issue and made it clear that they want the public conveniences open again. I am delighted to say that this will now happen and all toilets should be open within weeks."

The re-opening of the toilets will mean that savings will have to be found elsewhere in the Council's budget. The Lib Dems are pledging to consult local people on where savings should be found. This will be part of a wider review of all Council services if the Government continues with its plan to cap Shepway.

Cllr John Hughes said, "It is important that local people are consulted and given the chance to have their say on what services matter most to them."
