Liberal Democrat bills receive royal assent

12 Feb 2019

Today two bills driven by Liberal Democrats will receive royal assent. Both the Bill to make upskirting a specific offence and ban letting fees both began as Liberal Democrat Private Members' Bills.

The 'upskirting' (Voyeurism Offences) Bill is a victory for women up and down the country. This is part of enshrining women's autonomy over their bodies into law, and means that now the police and the courts should find it far easier to bring perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, the Tenant Fees Bill will make a huge difference for tenants by outlawing these unfair fees. This will save renters up and down the country hundreds of pounds every year.
