Local Communities and Local Residents
This is a good time to be a Liberal Democrat in Shepway.
A motion re microgeneration, (that is powering houses with solar panels, possible wind tunnels, collecting water, etc etc) was carried through the council chamber. This was not enough for us, although we had put this motion, but we added an amendment that a working party of officers, and members, should work together, to set targets for our area. This motion will now have to be studied, not just put on a shelf, and brought to a conclusion.
We are campaigning hard to save Harcourt Primary School from closure. This primary school is the centre of a great community in Cheriton, and we are working with parents to fight a campaign to save this improving primary school. The community around Harcourt is the hub of this area, and we believe that communities like this, is what we should be striving to return too, not to destroy.
The campaign against the expansion of the runway at Lydd Airport is gaining momentum, and we are part of an anti expansion presentation to be held on the 24th of May 2006. It is fantastic working with the Green Party, and Shepway Friends of the Earth, and the local residents of New Romney. This expansion will change our area for ever, and destroy the quality of life for all those who live in Shepway.
Every day our district and town councillors, are listening to individuals who need help, advice and support.
Problems that cause distress, anxiety and worry to people, are sometimes easily solved, by making a phone call, or a visit. Local issues are the most important to the vast majority of people, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our councillors and campaigners, members, who work so very hard to help in these situations.
