Lynne Beaumont is Nominated for Folkestone and Hythe
Lynne Beaumont has today become the nominated Liberal Democrat candidate for Folkestone & Hythe at the June General Election.
Lynne Beaumont was the Liberal Democrats' candidate for Folkestone and Hythe for the 2010 and 2015 General Elections. Lynne has lived, worked and campaigned here for 30 years. She has lived in Folkestone, Hythe and the Elham Valley and raised her children here, and is delighted that her grandchildren are also now growing up here.
Lynne has been a Councillor in Shepway for over 10 years, and a School Governor for 12 years before that. Lynne fought and won by-elections to return to Shepway District Council and Folkestone Town Council in November 2012-May 2015, overturning large Conservative majorities to take the seats.
A nationally renowned campaigner, Lynne helped lead the FairFuelUK campaign against rises in fuel duty costs and has been a key part of the Gurkha justice campaign since its inception.
Lynne believes that our next MP should be dedicated to our area full time. Fighting for local services. Working with local people and local councils to deliver for the area and standing up for what local people want.
Lynne commented:
"I'm delighted to have been nominated and am massively looking forward to the campaign.
"I'm astonished and delighted at the warmth of the support the Liberal Democrats have seen locally since the General Election was called. We've seen another surge in our Party membership, which I've not seen at the start of past election campaigns. And we've been bowled over to receive donations from across the area - big and small - to help fund our campaign.
"When Theresa May called a snap Election, we were given just 6 weeks to knock on 47,000 doors across Folkestone and Hythe. This is obviously impossible, but I hope to meet as many people as possible and will be sending our positive message to every voter over the next few weeks, asking them to back our campaign to Change Britain's Future."
