Folkestone and Hythe Lib Dems are sad to hear today of the death of Michael Lyons, a former Conservative District and Town Councillor for Hythe. Michael also server a term as Mayor of Hythe, and held the Speakership of the Cinque Ports for a year, a position of which he was rightly proud.

Michael Lyons was rushed into hospital on New Years Day and passed away in the last 24 hours. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Folkestone & Hythe Lib Dem Group Leader Tim Prater commented:

"Michael was always a joy to be around. polite, likeable, funny and cared deeply about what he did. I had the pleasure of serving as a then Shepway District Councillor with Michael from 2007-2011:

"While it is fair to say I did not get on with some Conservative Councillors in that time, that was never the case with Michael. He was always the opposite: charming and friendly, even when we disagreed - possibly ESPECIALLY when we disagreed!"
