Ming Campbell Resignation

The Leader of the Lib Dems in Shepway has greeted the news of Ming Campbell's resignation with gratitude for his contribution as leader, and enthusiasm for the new start it offers the party.

The Liberal Democrats Federal Executive have tonight agreed a timetable to elect a new Leader. All members will have a vote. Nominations will open tomorrow and close on October 31st. Ballot papers will be distributed towards the end of November and the result will be declared in the week beginning December 17th.

Cllr Lynne Beaumont, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Shepway District Council, said:

"Ming's decision is typical of the man, statesmanlike, selfless and dignified.

"His action means, that the new leader will have time to build on Ming's excellent work, and take the party on to the next general election."
