Morehall Avenue and Chart Road one-way consultation

21 May 2010

In August last year Kent County Councillor Tim Prater started a bid under KCC's Members Highway Fund to look into a scheme to create a one-way scheme in Morehall Avenue and Chart Road.

The roads suffer badly from parking and traffic problems, especially around school times, with the roads often locking with traffic unable to pass each way. Many local residents and parents at Morehall School have contacted Tim and other members of Shepway Lib Dems asking for help in making the area better.

A one-way scheme had previously been considered by Kent County Council but had been dropped as other schemes had priority. However, as the issue is still there and not getting any better, Tim requested that Kent re-look at the scheme and come back with a full proposal for local residents to consider.

KCC have now brought back proposals for a one way system in Morehall Avenue and chart road.If local residents give it the go-ahead, it would be paid for out of a grant of £25,000 "Members Highways Fund" each County Councillor is allocated. There will be a full consultation with all residents in the road before any scheme is implemented.
