Narrow High Street a danger to more the wing mirrors

8 Sep 2014

Local Lib Dem Gary Fuller is calling for action to deal with a narrow area of Sandgate High Street (A259) after a bus collided with a parked car on Monday. A double decker bus, a 102 travelling from Lydd to Folkestone, hit the parked car soon after the owner had left the vehicle at around 12.45pm. The bus caused damage to the rear of the vehicle, denting the wheel arch.

Sandgate High Street narrows between numbers 96 and 104 and has been the scene of numerous damaged wing mirrors over the past few months. Commenting on the accident, Gary said:

"Kent Highways and the UKIP County Cllr need to take a serious look at this stretch of the High Street. Too many parked cars are being damaged as drivers fail to judge the width of the gap correctly and carry too much speed into it.

"The A259 is an incredibly busy road, and I am genuinely concerned that a more serious accident than damaged wing mirrors, an almost daily event as it is, will occur if this isn't dealt with."
