Neil Says No to Otterpool
The Liberal Democrats are opposing plans for "Otterpool Park", a 12,000 home commuter town proposed by Shepway District Council.
The town, near Westenhanger station and the M20, is being proposed on land currently occupied by Folkestone Racecourse and farmland recently purchased by the District Council as an "investment". As proposed, Otterpool Park would be larger than Hythe.
Former Hythe Mayor Neil Matthews said:
"I am strongly opposed to 'Otterpool Park', the massive development currently being proposed by the Conservative led District Council.
"In spite of the Conservative Cabinet's perseverance to present Otterpool as a 'Garden Town', the people of Shepway have seen through this charade and can clearly see it will be a 'Commuter' town that will drain wealth and resources away from our established local communities.
"This Otterpool 'Commuter town' is being pushed through with scant regard to its negative impact on our local community.
"The scale of the immense development is environmentally unsustainable and lacks any coherent plan for much needed social or actual affordable housing."
