New look Folkestone Library welcomes back users

18 Oct 2010

Customers have been enjoying the recent improvements to Folkestone's library and History Resource Centre. Kent County Council's Mike Hill will officially mark the reopening of the library on Thursday 28 October at 10:15am.

Throughout October customers have been seen a regular programme of events at the library, including how to research a family tree, making books, volunteering in libraries and a chance to learn about history and handle historic objects.

The library now has a selection of new books, an improved layout and a bigger children's section including computers. Work has also been carried out to make the building easier to use and more welcoming, with new display shelves and modern furniture and décor to create a bright atmosphere. As part of the refurbishment, the old heating system has been replaced to be more energy efficient and reliable.

The official opening has been timed to coincide with the centenary of the first extension to the building, which has been on Grace Hill since 1888.
