Former Folkestone & Sandgate County Councillor Tim Prater has welcomed news that lorry drivers have been banned from parking on a number of roads across the district overnight and at weekends.

The new restrictions introduced by Shepway District Council have come into force today and cover 19 areas where HGVs have caused obstruction, damage, noise and litter complaints from residents.

Tim Prater said:

"One of my first campaigns locally was fighting the blight of lorry parking on Cheriton High Street, so I know how bad for local residents persistent overnight parking on unsuitable roads can be.

"Lorry drivers NEED places to be able to stop overnight with proper facilities: parking in local streets just isn't the answer. I'm pleased Shepway have finally taken this step to stop parking in the wrong places, but they also need to look at ensuring there are a range of reasonably priced alternatives."
