New Romney Recycing Centre to open 23 May

Kent County Council's new household waste recycling centre based at Mountfield Road, New Romney opens its doors to local residents on 23 May 2011. The site will replace the weekend freighter facility operating in New Romney and Lydd.

Opening Hours:

  • Monday to Saturday: 8am to 4.30pm
  • Sundays & Bank holidays: 9am to 4pm
  • Closed: Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre is licensed for domestic waste and recycling only. It is an offence to take business waste there.

Access:

There is a height barrier of 2 metres (6ft 6ins) at this centre.

Trailers:

Trailers up to 8 feet (2.44 metres) long (excluding drawbar and hitch) may use this centre. Longer trailers may use the following Household Waste Recycling Centres:

  • Chart Leacon HWRC, Brunswick Road, Cobbs Wood Industrial Estate, ASHFORD, Kent. TN23 1EL
  • Shorncliffe HWRC, Ross Way, Shorncliffe, FOLKESTONE, Kent. CT20 3UP.

Other vehicles:

Pick-up trucks and tipping vehicles carrying domestic waste and recycling are permitted at this site, but they must be unloaded by hand. Vehicles weighing more than 3,500 kilograms (or carrying business waste) will be refused entry.

  • Garden waste

  • Aluminium foil
  • Food and drink cans
  • Scrap metal

Other recyclables

  • Cooking oil

Paper and cardboard

  • Books
  • Mixed paper and card

Textiles and clothing

  • Mixed textiles and clothing
  • Shoes

Wood and building materials

  • Furniture
  • Rubble and soil
  • Wood and timber

Materials accepted at this site for disposal

  • Asbestos
  • Bulky domestic, non-recycleable waste
  • Paints - these go into the waste bin at the site.
  • Plastic bottles

Materials not accepted at this site

  • Business waste
  • Clinical waste
  • Fireworks
  • Household chemicals
  • Petrol
  • Plasterboard
