NHS reforms - are they what we want? Learn the facts and have your say.
Liberal Democrats in Kent believe that the future of the NHS is one of the most crucial political issues facing this country. They have arranged a meeting for local people to hear the facts and have their opinions heard and passed on to the government.
This event will allow people from across Kent to discuss plans to change the NHS. Earlier this year, the Government announced its plans for NHS reforms. These included getting GPs to take over the work of Primary Care Trusts, creating individual health budgets and increasing contracts with private companies.
Communities, doctors and health campaigners rebelled, leading to a rethink. Now, the Government has published its revised proposals and over the coming weeks final decisions are due to be made.
Dr Evan Harris, a doctor, former MP and vice-chair of the Liberal Democrat federal policy committee, led the campaign to stop and rethink the reforms earlier this year. He will give his views of the latest proposals and, together with local health representatives, ask what the people of Faversham and Swale think about them. Local views will be passed on to ministers
Will NHS reforms lead to a widening of UK health inequalities? How will £20bn cuts be made? Should GPs run the NHS? What do you think?
Come to the Alexander Centre, Preston Street, Faversham on Tuesday 13th September 2011, 7.00 pm. All welcome.
