Parliamentary Election Result for Folkestone & Hythe: Lynne says Thank You
Lib Dem Lynne Beaumont has thanked all those who campaigned and voted for her in Folkestone and Hythe at the General Election. Despite a strong campaign, in line with the terrible results for the Liberal Democrats nationally, the Lib Dems came fourth behind the Conservatives, UKIP and Labour.
Lynne said:
"It's a really hard day locally and nationally: one of the hardest. I want to say thank you to all those who supported my campaign in any way, and for all the wonderful messages of support during the campaign. To the Lib Dem members and campaigners who made my campaign possible - including my agent & husband Peter - a massive thanks.
"Here in Folkestone and Hythe, we have got one of the better results for the Lib Dems in Kent, but it's nowhere near what we hoped. Nationally, the Party has had a disaster. We will recover as a Party, and we'll do so by doing what we are best at: listening to people, campaigning with them, and working for them."
The Conservatives won 48& of the vote in the consistuency, UKIP 23%, Labour 14% and the Lib Dems 9%. The count for the local elections in Shepway (for Shepway District Council and local Town and Parish Councils) starts at 9am on Saturday at the Three Hills Centre on Cheriton Road.
