Personal Loan Cold Call Scam

6 Aug 2010

Kent Trading Standards want to warn Kent residents about a scam involving personal loans. A Kent consumer was recently cold called by someone claiming to represent a well known finance company offering a loan of several thousand pounds.

When the consumer agreed they were informed there was a handling charge to be paid by Western Union. After the consumer paid they did not hear again from the caller and no loan was given. They were unable to recover the "handling charge".

Do not respond to cold callers, do not agree on the telephone, always ask to see any paperwork. Always use a reputable lender or Kent Savers Credit Union http://www.kentsavers.co.uk/ or telephone 0300 456 9900

Report any similar incidents to Consumer Direct http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ or telephone 08454 04 05 06.
