"Pistol" Filming in Sandgate 1st May 2021

Letter distributed in Sandgate yesterday with revised details of the arrangements for filming of "Pistol" in Sandgate on 1st May. Thought it might be easier for some to read like this than a photo of a letter!

NOTIFICATION OF FILMING IN SANDGATE ON SATURDAY 1ST MAY 2021

April 2021

Dear Resident/Business Owner,

We work in the Location Department on a new TV drama series entitled "PISTOL" which is a 6-part TV drama directed by Danny Boyle (Yesterday, Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) and produced by Minim UK Productions Ltd. Set in the 1970's, the drama tells the story of the world-famous pioneers of the punk rock music movement and their rise to fame. We are planning for filming on Undercliff and at Riviera Car Sales on Saturday 1st May from 14:00 to 20:00.

Filming Schedule: April 2021

• Thursday 29th April: Preparation 08:00-18:00 at Riviera Car Sales (reduced crew)
• Friday 30th April: Preparation 08:00-18:00 at Riviera Car Sales and rehearsal 1600-1800 on Undercliff (reduced crew)
• Saturday 1st May: Preparation 08:00-14:00 at Riviera Car Sales and Undercliff (reduced crew)
  • Shoot 14:00-17:00 at Undercliff
  • Shoot 17:00-20:00 at Riviera Car Sales
• Sunday 2nd May: Reinstatement 08:00-18:00 at Riviera Car Sales (reduced crew)

Action / Filming details

We are filming a couple of scenes in which our band members are travelling in a van and they stop at petrol station (Riviera Car Sales) and another scene where their van breaks down on a steep hill (Undercliff). We will working at Riviera Car Sales changing the garage into a period petrol station, we will also be removing some of the modern road signs and covering up some of the modern elements on the road. We have been liaising with Folkestone and Hythe Council and Kent Highways for these requests. Once we begin preparation works we will have a 24 hour security presence at Riviera Car Sales.

Parking

In order to service our filming, we have a number of technical vehicles carrying equipment that need to be parked close to location and therefore have suspended some parking bays in the area. Majority of our bays that we have requested to suspend on Sandgate High Street is for clearance of shot, in order to help clear any modern cars that may be seen on camera during filming.

Traffic Management

On Friday 30th April, we have a vehicle rehearsal taking place on Undercliff and for safety of the public and crew, we have applied for a road closure (resident access only) on Undercliff from 16:00-18:00. On Saturday 1st May we have a road closure (resident access only) on Undercliff from 12:00-18:00. For the filming at Riviera Car Sales we have applied for a road closure (resident access only) on Gough Road from 16:00-20:00. We would like to kindly ask for those residents living on Gough Road, if travelling by vehicle to exit and enter via Military Road. We will have Stop/Go Traffic Management on Sandgate High Street directly outside Riviera Car Sales between the hours of 16:00-20:00. Vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians will be held during filming takes for up to a maximum of 3 minutes. This is to ensure that the filming area is controlled and the crew are working in a safe environment. Please be assured that access for residents will be maintained and our licensed Traffic Management team and Location Stewards will do their best to assist you.

Lighting / Generators

During our filming hours, we will have a Kent Council Lighting Engineer with us to control street lighting on Sandgate High Street. We will have portable and silent generators on site at Riviera Car Sales.

Reassurances & Contact Details

We would like to reassure residents and businesses that on the filming day we will have stewards on site to help you wherever possible. We are working closely with the Kent Film Office regarding all the logistics of this particular scene.
