Porchlight and South East Supported Housing Month
Kent homeless charity Porchlight are taking part in South East Supported Housing Month which runs between the 15 November and 10 December 2010. Organised by service providers throughout the South East, and coordinated by the National Housing Federation, the aim of the month is to raise awareness of the work of the sector.
Supported housing services help over 136,000 people in the South East live more independent and fulfilled lifestyles. Throughout the region, the sector provides more than 2,700 personalised services, tailoring them to meet individual needs. National research from the Department for Communities and Local Government shows that every £1 spent on Supporting People saves £2.12 on other public services.
To highlight the importance of supported housing Porchlight have set up a dedicated web page which includes a video interview with one our service users, Ian. In the video Ian talks candidly about what supported housing means to him and how it has provided the stable base for him to get his life back on track: http://www.porchlight.org.uk/shm2010/
