Shepway Lib Dems are stepping up their campaign to keep the Main Post Office in Folkestone. Since the announcement of intended transfer to WHSmith in Sandgate Road over 400 petition slips have been returned from local people, with more signing an on-line petition.

The slips were on a series of leaflets put out by the Lib Dems during the recent local elections. Over the next few weeks they will be hand delivering a further 10,000 leaflets across Folkestone asking people to support the campaign. Additionally, local people can sign the petition on-line at saveourpostoffice.org.uk

Lib Dem Town Councillor for Harvey Central Ward (home of the Main Post Office and the proposed new home of WHSmiths) Gary Fuller said:

"Our town needs its Post Office. Local people see this as the downgrading of yet another service in our town. You only have to see the queues in the Post Office to understand how popular it is - local people are not convinced that W H Smith will be able to supply the same level of service.

"I and all my Lib Dem colleagues are pledged to do all we can to stop this move. I urge everyone to sign our petition which will be on all the leaflets we put out in the next few weeks. If local people have access to the internet we urge them to log on and sign up online at www.saveourpostoffice.org.uk".
