Reduction in Kent drink drive arrests and deaths in December

Kent Police report that a nationwide campaign to combat drink driving Kent has seen arrest figures for drink driving, and deaths due to drink driving, fall during December 2006 compared to the same period in 2005.

Officers administered over 4000 breath tests during December 2006 resulting in just 329 arrests for offences of excess alcohol, refusing to provide or failing to provide.

During the Christmas period, officers were on the lookout for all irresponsible drivers who put their own and others lives at risk.

  • In December 2005 there were 14 collisions which resulted in 15 deaths and 8 serious injuries. 363 drivers were arrested for alcohol or drug related offences.
  • In December 2006 there were 17 collisions resulting in 8 deaths and 12 serious injuries. 319 arrests were made for alcohol or drug related offences.
