Renewed witness appeal marks one-year anniversary of fatal shooting in Folkestone

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are renewing an appeal for information to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Joe Daniels in Folkestone.

An investigation was launched after the 58-year-old man was found unresponsive inside the Red Cow pub in Foord Road, shortly before 11.30am on Wednesday 22 November 2017.

Joe Daniels had suffered an injury consistent with a gunshot and was pronounced dead at the scene, where a firearm was also recovered.

Since the incident, detectives have carried out extensive enquiries and have appealed for witnesses to come forward with information and dashcam footage.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Richard Vickery said:

"Firstly we would like to thank all those people who have come forward with information over the past year. This has been of great assistance to us and as a result we are continuing to uncover new lines of enquiry.

"We understand this must be upsetting for Mr Daniels' friends and family and we are doing everything we can to get to the truth of what happened that day and establish whether there was any third party involvement.

"As part of our enquiries, to date, we have reviewed more than one thousand hours of CCTV and dashcam footage and taken more than 350 statements. We've carried out three house searches and seized more than 1200 items, many of which have been forensically examined.

"Our investigation remains ongoing and we are still speaking with members of the public, gathering information and carrying out forensic analysis following new leads, however this process is complex and can take time.

"We would like to take the opportunity to urge anyone who remembers anything or who has new information to come forward, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant that information appears to be. This includes any available video footage that may have been picked up by dashboard cameras and not yet provided to us yet could be crucial to our investigation."

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday 31 January 2018 in connection with the incident and remains under investigation. There have been no further arrests at this stage.
