Reporting flyposting in Sandgate

Flyposting on street furniture

Another day, another business decides that rules are not for them, and that they'll advertise their business or event on posters on street furniture somewhere in Folkestone and Hythe.

Flyposting is illegal and, especially when done onto lampposts in the middle of the road, dangerous too. Seeing a poster is MUCH less important than seeing whats coming the other way down the road to drivers and pedestrians alike.

I reported this most recent incidence last night to both Folkestone and Hythe District Council, and Kent Highways. I wasn't sure which had responsibility: I recalled Folkestone and Hythe had dealt with this before, but it is Kent Highways' streetlight.

After much to and fro on Twitter, it's been confirmed that the next people to report instances of flyposting to in this area are Folkestone and Hythe District Council, who have an agreement with Kent Highways that they can remove such ntoices from their street furniture. They can also remove from some other utilities, and also issue fixed penalty notices to the flyposters - and indeed prosecute them if they don't then pay up. So far this year F&HDC have issued 17 fixed penalty notices against flyposters.

I should also say well done to Liz on Folkestone and Hythe DC's Twitter account for dealing with this quickly and informatively. Credit where it's due, and today, it is!

You can report flyposting to Folkestone and Hythe District Council on their website or via Twitter to @fstonehythedc.
