Result in Harvey West shows what we all know

27 Oct 2014

Local Lib Dem Gary Fuller, commenting on the result of the by-election in Folkestone Harvey West ward, has suggested that the results reflect an ongoing trend in Shepway politics. The results, which saw the Conservatives narrowly win the district and town council seats with both UKIP and the Lib Dems within 130 votes of victory, represented a massive swing away from the Conservatives and also demonstrated that neither Labour or the Green Party can win in Folkestone.

Commenting, Gary Said:

"In 2011 the Conservatives were the victors by almost 500 votes in this ward, but the incompetence of their leadership has cost them much of their local support, a trend that is continuing to worsen.

Labour and the Greens meanwhile are continuing to take a small number of votes away from the Lib Dems, votes that would have seen our excellent candidate Hugh Robertson-Ritchie elected to Folkestone Town Council.

It's a three way fight in Shepway. Only the Lib Dems or the UKIP/Cons can win here. If you support a progressive local politics that listens to the people, and are not ruled by fear and hatred, the only choice in Shepway is Lynne Beaumont and the Lib Dems."
