Shepway Liberal Democrat Ross Clark has called on Highways England to make immediate changes to the 40mph speed limit on the A20 between the Roundhill Tunnels and Dover.

Ross said:

"As so many local residents know to our cost, the 40mph limit when the lorry stack is not in operation is frustrating and dangerous.

"There is no need for that limit when lorries are not stacking in that area. Yet the cameras continue to rack up the fines - except for the foreign lorries openly and dangerously flouting the limit.

"I understand the case for the stack during times of disruption, and a lower speed limit when it is running.

"But 40mph when there is no stack is nonsensical and needs removing as soon as possible."

A Freedom of Information request revealed almost 1,700 foreign truckers who broke the speed limit on the A20 towards Dover have not been fined for offences from Apr-Nov 2015.
