Sad News about Councillor Willie Richardson

8 Nov 2010

An email from Shepway District Council Leader Robert Bliss has arrived today, telling Councillors about the death of Lydd District and Romney Marsh County Councillor Willie Richardson. Willie has fought a long fight against cancer, but tragically died in the early hours of Monday morning.

Councillor Robert Bliss said:

"Willie was elected to Shepway District Council in 2003 and quickly became an admired and respected councillor. In 2007 I chose him to serve on Cabinet where he brought a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm about coastal matters to the role.

"I will miss him as a cabinet colleague, councillor and most of all as a good friend."

County Councillor Tim Prater commented:

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and colleagues of Willie Richardson at this time. He has had such a long fight against cancer, but reports remained optimistic - it's tragic and unexpected news.

"I sat with Willie, on amongst other bodies, the Kent and Essex Sea Fisheries Committee, on which he had an array of insight and knowledge. His knowledge and expertise on Romney Marsh and coastal issues will be much missed, almost as much as his ready and willing smile at meetings."
