Sandgate CPZ Objections: The Council Responds

11 Nov 2016
Shepway District Council Sandgate Parking Consultation Notice on Granville Parade

Received from Shepway District Council, their formal response to my objection to the Sandgate CPZ (basically telling local residents that they are ignroing the hundreds of us that made objections), and my response to their email....

08/11/2016

Dear Sir/Madam

Sandgate East Proposed Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Consultation

Thank you for your comments on the recent consultation for a proposed TRO in Sandgate.

Your comments were included in the analysis and reported to the Cabinet Member for Transport, Cllr Malcolm Dearden. He has carefully considered the arguments on both sides and has decided to proceed with making the TRO as this is the most appropriate action to balance competing requirements, meet the needs of local residents and facilitate the safe operation of the highway.

Although your objection has not been upheld, many of the comments received have influenced some of the additional actions that will be taken. These actions include;

  1. A reduction in Castle Road car park charges to

Up to 2 hours- £1

Up to 4 hours- £3

All day- £5

  1. A reduction in the operational hours of this scheme to 8am-6pm.
  2. Surrounding roads to be reviewed six months after implementation of this scheme, with a view to extend the restrictions if necessary.

It is expected that these measures will help address the parking issues in the area. Full details are contained in the report available on the council's website www.shepway.gov.uk

Yours sincerely,

Kind Regards

Dave Petcher

Hm. So my response is now back with them, sent today.

Thank you for your email David.

Please can you confirm the date that the TRO was made.

Also, I note your letter claims that the proposal has been amended due to the hundreds of objections received during the formal consultation, and specifically that those amended actions include:

"A reduction in Castle Road car park charges to:

Up to 2 hours- £1
Up to 4 hours- £3
All day- £5"

However, that action was already part of the proposal put in the formal consultation, including that exact pricing structure, as noted on your own website at:

http://www.shepway.gov.uk/moderngov/ieDecisionDetails.aspx?ID=1429 (and archived elsewhere).

The action is therefore not in response to the objections received as part of the public consultation. The letter is therefore inaccurate, and should be withdrawn.

I look forward to your reply.

Regards,

Tim
