Sandgate CPZ proposals: late July 2016 update

Shepway District Council Sandgate Parking Consultation Notice on Granville Parade

Over two months after the close of the official "consultation" on the proposed new parking controls on Granville Parade and Castle Road, Sandgate, no decision on the proposals has been published by Shepway Council.

Shepway received hundreds of objections to the proposals to ban parking for longer than 2 hours in those areas (between 8am-8pm every day of the year) to anyone not resident in those roads.

Despite that, as of today, they are saying that there is no formal report written yet on the consultation and the proposals. Shepway are also holding a meeting with Saga (today) to "discuss the implications of the CPZ with Saga", but declined to invite any Sandgate Councillors to that meeting.

Sandgate Councillor Tim Prater said:

"These parking proposals would be awful for almost all Sandgate residents and visitors, which is why there were hundreds of objections to the Council's formal consultation on the scheme. Sandgate Parish Council were unanimously opposed to the scheme.

"Now we learn that over two months since the close of the consultation, Shepway Council haven't even written a formal report detailing all objections - and there are hundreds - to the proposed scheme or making a recommendation on how to proceed.

"And instead of discussing the scheme with the local Parish Council, they are having a closed door meeting, without formal report, with Saga.

"That's no way to treat Sandgate residents and businesses, and no way to run a consultation."
