Sandgate Library Open during Folkestone Library Closure [Updated 24/6/19 reopening date]

Sandgate Library and Parish Council building

Kent County Council have closed Folkestone Library on Grace Hill due to the impact of water leaks at Folkestone Library on the fabric of the building and central electrics.

They had been advised by KCC Infrastructure and Gen2 to close the building given the deterioration of the situation and a forecast of more bad weather this week. They will issue an update when they have more information on a re-opening.

Works are in hand to ensure all archive material is moved to an unaffected area, and any registration customers with appointements in the near future should be contacted.

in the meantime, Sandgate Library is open for book borrowing and returns and you can use your Folkestone Library card. More details about Sandgate Library and opening hours are at http://www.sandgatepc.kentparishes.gov.uk/library-opening-times/

UPDATE 24/6/19:

Folkestone Library will be reopening on Wednesday 26th June. There is scaffolding internally and externally and property have ensured a temporary fix that will keep the building dry while further investigations about the permanent fixes and works needed take place.

All extended hours elsewhere will continue up to the point of reopening. Registration of Births and Deaths may continue in place for the week ahead at Hythe, but will revert back to Folkestone on the 2nd July at the latest.

Only the ground floor library will be open so the upstairs local history/gallery space will have to remain closed. It is important for us to get a step back towards normal operation but know there will be more works and a potential future closure to come which will keep you updated on.
