Shepway District Council Sandgate Parking Consultation Notice on Granville Parade

Shepway District Council have announced today they are going ahead with a CPZ scheme in Sandgate.

Despite hundreds of objections from local residents and businesses, Shepway District Council are bringing in parking restrictions on Granville Parade, Granville Road East, Granville Parade West, Parade Road, Lachlan Way, Lister Way and Castle Road and intend to put the restrictions in place from next Monday.

The decision notice has been published online, but the supporting report is hidden behind an error message at the time of publication.

Sandgate Parish Councillors Gary Fuller, Kurt Stephens and Tim Prater were furious at the news. Tim said:

"After 100's of local residents, businesses and visitors told Shepway District Council they were opposed to this scheme, for them to proceed is shws how little they care about local people.

"It's a slap in the face for local residents, and shows how little Shepway District Council care about joint working with Town and Parish Councils it their area. Sandgate Parish Council was opposed, told Shepway still, and the District Council carry on regardless."

Kurt Stephens added:

"For Shepway to go ahead in the face of hundreds of objections is a disgrace. I'm appalled that they are going ahead, and it shows how little they care about the views of local residents.

"At this moment, Shepway District Council can't even control people parking on the seawall itself, but plan to stop people parking on the road by the side of it. The decision doesn't just ignore local opinion, it ignores reality."
