Sandgate Visitor Shows Huge Value of Volunteer Animal Charity

A tired seal that became stranded on Sandgate beach has been recovered and is now safe after the British Divers Marine Life Rescue came to its aid. The seal was rescured from Sandgate beach on Tuesday afternoon and taken to the RSPCA Mallydams wildlife centre where is was reported to be underweight but recovering.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue is a national volunteer network dedicated to the rescue and well-being of all marine animals in distress around the UK.

Sandgate Councillor Tim Prater commented:

"Its great that our seal visitor got the care they needed, and we hope to see it back in Sandgate under happier circumstances soon!

"The rescue has really highlighted the great work of the BDMLR who attended and rescued the seal after a report - thanks to them and the RSPCA for their work."

British Divers Marine Life Rescue offer advice on what to do if you see a stranded marine animal on their website and say:

"What to do if you find a live stranded marine mammal

"Please note the place, the state of the tide and any injuries you can see without getting close and call 01825 765546 during office hours.

After 5pm on working days, or at weekends or Bank Holidays, please call our out of hours number on 07787 433412 (NB: this number does not receive texts or pictures). We will then advise you on what to do and will get a trained medic out as soon as possible."
