Sanger Welcomes Improved Shepway Recycling Services
Local campaigner Emily Sanger has welcomed the improved recycling service to be rolled out across Folkestone in the next few weeks. The first batch of boxes and bags for Shepway Council's new waste management service will be delivered next week (week beginning Monday 15 May).
Emily said:
"I'm delighted to see the new recycling services being rolled out across the area. The Liberal Democrats have been champions of recycling locally and are known as the most environmentally friendly of the main parties nationally.
"It's really important to watch how the system works at the start, and to make sure teething problems are sorted quickly. One issue that has already been raised with me is that those if flats using shared bins will not be included in the scheme. Lots of people in Shepway really want to do their bit for the environment - let's make sure everyone can get involved! "
The council's new waste service starts on 4 July and aims to reduce the 33,000 tonnes of waste from the district that ends up in landfill sites every year. The previous Lib Dem council administration secured a £1.6 million grant from the government for capital costs, extends the council's current weekly kerbside collection of paper and card to include glass bottles and jars, tins, cans and plastic bottles. Boxes will be used for glass bottles and jars, tins, cans, and plastic bottles. Bags will be used for paper and card.
An information booklet giving full details of service will be delivered to all homes across the district over the next four weeks.
