Saving K College - How YOU can help
Once again, our area is threatened by losing a vital service to our community.
I was contacted by staff at K College to help run a community campaign to safeguard the future for young people in our area.
K College offers a variety of further education, all of which is vital to young people across our area. Without this facility, a lifeline will be removed for those who need it most.
It has taken the last two weeks for the senior management team at K College to admit that they are over £16 million in debt. At the beginning of July of this year, the debt was believed to be £7 million.
Over the summer, it became apparent that the debt was in fact far higher than had been previously believed. The knee jerk reaction to this was to commence a consultation exercise with staff, to lose 165 jobs (some believe this could be as high as 400), and sell off the K College site in Folkestone.
K College in Folkestone provides a lifeline for young people, and re-training for others to gain employment.
A lot of courses offered are vocational, plumbing/building/electricians/hair and beauty. These are all services we all need and deliver employment that keeps our young people local, employed locally and generating money into the local economy.
We cannot stand back and let this happen. K College senior management team has to be more aware of how important K College is to our area and the future for our young people. We cannot lose K College because of managerial mismanagement.
If you agree with me, please sign up to www.savekcollege.com, sign the petition, write to the Governors, and your local MP Damian Collins. We need to stand up and have an input into the future of young people in our area. Their future is the future of our area wherever you live, from Densole to Dungeness, help save K College.
