Schools, Power Stations and Tunnel Repairs!
Life is always busy for Shepway Lib Dems. We continue to make our presence felt at the various Councils, school governing bodies and other groups such as PACTs. We continue to report faults and fix problems for our residents. We are there all year round - no other party in Shepway considers the needs of its residents at such a level.
I continue in my quest to meet as many people as I can. I am also making time to see those who were helpers in the not so distant past. Many have said they can help again, whether by displaying a poster or delivering leaflets. Some have decided to join the Party, backing me in my quest to win here, to end the Tory's arrogant claim on the constituency. They are also supporting us as we head towards the County and European elections this June. This is very good news indeed and if you happen to be a new reader to the Members' News - welcome, I hope you enjoy it.
I'm regularly meeting with our major employers, such as Eurotunnel. I was invited to see how the repair work to the north tunnel was progressing - some 11km or so from the French coast. Very recently I visited the Marsh Academy and Pent Valley School with David Laws MP, our Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. David and I learned from their Head Teachers how these very different establishments were trying to raise the level of education for our children.
Next week I am visiting Dungeness nuclear power station. I hope to learn more about how the staff there see the future of power generation within our area. Indeed this subject of nuclear power raised its head at Kate McNeice's discussion dinner earlier this month. With such good food and pleasant company it was a great evening and I would thoroughly recommend going to the next one. Places are limited so jump in quick!
The Campaign committee continues to tweak and fine tune our campaign as we approach 4th June. Now with a further resignation on Sandgate Council, we have another Sandgate seat to win too!
There is absolutely no reason why we should not do well. We have sound ideas and beliefs. With Labour in free fall and the Tories still unloved there is everything to play for. Jump onboard, its not going to be easy but the journey is going to be worth it. Help in any way you like; come to social events, help with stuffing envelopes, deliver to your street, canvass on the telephone or even join me in talking to people on the streets and doorsteps. If you are able to help - in any way at all - just give me a call on 07977 208 584 or email neil@shepwaylibdems.org.uk. Your help will be warmly welcomed!
