SDC agrees to sale of beach in 'urgent' meeting

30 Jan 2014

A price has been agreed for the sale of Fisherman's Beach, in an "urgent" Shepway District Council decision.

SDC has refused to release any more details about its acceptance of an offer, which was agreed by cabinet in December. Press and public were excluded from the December 18 meeting, at which two offers were considered and the higher accepted.

At a full council meeting last Tuesday, Lib Dem Lynne Beaumont asked why the decision had been made so quickly.

She said: "Why did we run out of time? Why was the decision taken at such a late date? It had to be made by December 19, but why in such a short time, where was the letter of consultation and discussion before?"
