Seagull Proof Sacks for Refuse Collections: Now Available in Sandgate
Seagull proof sacks are now available to households in Sandgate (mainly the High Street / Esplanade areas and roads off) who have "purple bag" refuse collections. Stop the purple bags being pecked apart and waste pulled everywhere by putting your bags in the sack on collection days.
Full details of how qualifiying households can apply for their (one!) free sack are at https://sandgatepc.org.uk/2020/07/17/seagull-proof-sacks-for-refuse-collections-now-available-in-sandgate/
Sandgate Parish Council are arranging the distribution of sacks on behalf of Folkestone and Hythe District Council and Veolia - we all hope it can reduce street littering on bin collections Wednesday.
Tim says:
"I first started calling for seagull proof sacks for "purple bag" collection households in Sandgate in 2014 - it's taken a while, but we've finally delivered!
"Its a simple system: instead of those households (mainly flats) that would normally put their waste out in purple bags on collection day, they put those bags in the hessian sack, seal it, and leave it for collection. I'm not promising that they will never be opened by a seagull, but it will make it MUCH harder, and so reduce the occurances of waste distributed across the road by seagulls and foxes trying to get the food out of a bag on a Wednesday morning."
To order your sack email clerk@sandgatepc.org.uk or call 01303 248563 with your name and address. We are only permitted to give sacks to those with a current "purple sack" collection, so please don't ask if your usual rubbish collection is a bin collection. We will drop the sack to your property in the next 5 working days.
