Sandgate Beach has been awarded a 2013 Seaside Award by "Keep Britain Tidy" - one of only 113 English beaches to gain the award this year.

The award, formerly the Quality Coast Award, is given for "fantastic facilities and cleanliness". Sandgate Parish Council worked with a wide group of people to ensure the facilities were in place for the award, and flags will be placed soon to promote the award winning beach.

Sandgate Councillor Tim Prater is delighted by the news. Tim says:

"This award demonstrates the great facilities and beach we have in Sandgate. It's great for the area to get tis recognition it deserves: Sandgate is the only 2013 Seaside Award or Blue Flag beach in Shepway.

"Sandgate has worked really hard to acheive the award over the last few years, with massive credit due to Marjorie Findlay-Stone and Zoe Varian amongst others for their work, without which this award would certainly not have been given. Thanks also to the team at Shepway District Council who have provided support and advice throughout: its really appreciated."
