Shock at plans to end specialist breastfeeding support.
Local Lib Dem Lynne Beaumont has reacted with shock at plans to transfer all community breastfeeding support services to the Health Visiting Service. The plans will result in a saving to Kent County Council of £404,000 per year.
Concerns have been raised about the cutting of specialist support in favour of support from nurses who offer more general support. This change could potentially lead to reduced quality of, and access to, much needed support for families in Kent.
Commenting, Lynne said:
"This is such an important service, and so helpful to so many women and families. It needs to be offered by specialists, not added to the already busy workloads of nurses working for the Health Visiting Service. I urge everyone to take part in the consultation on these plans, as well as sign the 38 Degrees petition."
