https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/shorncliffe-make-history-save-history-foundations%20Following on from our news about the Canadian First World War Archive Box donated to the Trust by Mr. Richard Steacie, we are pleased to invite you to view an exhibition of some of the artefacts and the medal collection of Colonel Charles A Smart, commanding officer at Shorncliffe Garrison from April 1917 to December 1918.

When a statement such as this is made after opening the box, you know you will be in for a unique insight into his time at Shorncliffe:

"We had no idea what was going to be in the box, and we have found this Incredible collection for one man's service of one man's war. It's not only the usual medals we get from that sort of occupation as soldier, this has been documented with photographs annotated with who, why, what, where when, so it's an absolutely incredible archive about one man's war and one place that he served at and indeed a history of the Great War that you don't get to see every day in such detail.....its been an absolute pleasure to open the box"

Mark Smith, MA Orders, Decorations and Medals Specialist for, AH Baldwin & Son and Militaria Expert, for the BBC Antiques Roadshow

Please join us if you can. The exhibition can also be viewed during the normal opening hours through to early July. (Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm).
