Spam, Spam, Spam... Briddock Warns Gmail Account Users to Change Passwords
Following two recent spam email messages which seem to have been sent from members of the Liberal Democrats, local computer engineer Darren Briddock is warning that there seems to be a spate of spam emails coming from Gmail accounts, and is advising Gmail users to make sure they have changed their password recently.
Darren, owner of Shepway based DBNet Computers, says:
"In two cases over the past few days, a number of members of the Liberal Democrats (and others!) have received email that seems to come from real Gmail account users, and on checking, the email is actually in the 'sent items' basket of the Gmail account - although the user absolutely did not sent it. It would seem that there is a concerted effort to crack Gmail account passwords and spam from that account to email addresses in that Gmail contact list.
"Anyone with a Gmail account themselves would be well advised to change their password, and especially in any email is sent that purports to be from them.
"Although neither the email sent or the cracking of the Gmail account seems to be destructive, it's also worth making sure you have any information you deem important backed up securely."
