Sports boost for Shepway
Shepway has been awarded a massive £10 million to improve sports facilities in our area.
The money will mean big improvements to Folkestone Sports Centre and a brand new sports centre for Hythe. Planned improvements for Folkestone Sports Centre include indoor tennis courts, aerobics studio and improved pool facilities.
Lib Dem Council Leader Linda Cufley said, "This is a major success for Shepway - the bid was one of the largest PFI awards for sports and leisure facilities across the country for a district council. We will now be able to fulfil our ambitions to radically improve sports facilities for the people of the district."
The award, from the Government, enables a £16 million capital investment in sports facilities in Folkestone and Hythe and the financial support needed to ensure the schemes are maintained and managed to a high standard for years to come.
Cllr John Hughes added, "This scheme is an exciting partnership between the district council, the Sports Centre Trust and Hythe Town Council."
Putting Shepway back on track
Earlier this year, the Lib Dems swept to power in Shepway after years of Tory failure. Many residents felt angry that our area had been let down by ruling Conservative politicians.
The Council is now working hard to secure the investment our area needs. Other projects that the Lib Dems are fighting for include the long awaited Folkestone Town Centre improvements, Folkestone seafront development and Rail for Folkestone.
John Hughes said, "We want to make people's lives better. That's why we are working so hard to get improvements in Folkestone, Romney Marsh, Elham Valley and Hythe."
