Lee Walker welcomes new enforcement on littering and dog-fouling

Shepway District Council has announced that it is entering into a contract with external contractors - XFOR Local Authority Services Ltd - to control littering and dog fouling offences in the district.

The contractors will issue littering and dog fouling notices to offenders across the district. It is understood that the contract is intended to be cost neutral, with costs being covered by penalty notice income. Last year, Shepway issued just five penalty notices for littering and dog fouling, sepite regular complaints from the public and anti-fouling groups being set-up (http://www.facebook.com/stampit.dogfouling).

The contract will start on 1 July. From that date the enforcement officers will operate anywhere in the district which is open to the air and accessible to the public.

Lib Dem Folkestone Harbour Town Councillor Lee Walker welcomed the news. He said:

"I'm strongly against littering and dog-fouling in the area.

"If you have litter, find a bin or take it home. If you smoke, put out the butt and bin it. If you have a dog, clean up after it.

"By doing that you'll make the whole area cleaner for us all and avoid any risk of a fine."
