Tax rises slammed

15 May 2002

Local Lib Dems have slammed this year's huge Council Tax rises from the ruling Conservative Councils. Both the District and County Councils raised Council Tax by over 4 times the current rate of inflation!

Lib Dem Council Group Leader Linda Cufley said, "Since the Tories came to power, local people have found themselves hundreds of pounds out of pocket thanks to huge Tory tax increases. Services get worse, taxes go up and we all end up paying for the mismanagement of our Councils."

Failed To Listen

Liberal Democrats on Shepway Council have consistently warned the Conservative Council that spending was out of control.

Local Lib Dem Peter Carroll said, "The Conservative's claim to be competent in running the district finances is shot to pieces. They failed to keep to last year's budget, overspending in nearly every area!"

Shepway voters will get their chance to have their say on the latest Council Tax rises in local elections next year.
