Thank You from Shepway Liberal Democrats
Shepway Lib Dems have thanked everyone who supported them in the County Council elections in Shepway. The shock results saw UKIP gaining 4 seats in the area, the Green Party winning one, and the Conservatives narrowly hanging onto their last seat in Elham Valley.
The full Kent County Council 2013 results are available on the Kent County Council website.
In Folkestone West, Lib Dem Councillor Tim Prater was beaten into second place by UKIP, but polled over 150 votes more than the Conservatives. Tim Prater commented:
"I want to thank all those who worked so hard in Folkestone West to support my re-election campaign, and everyone who voted Liberal Democrat by post and on the day.
"Locally we have to congratulate UKIP on their wins, but they need to know that we will be holding them to account for their work locally every day they are Councillors. Our area needs good Councillors to stand up for local people and hold them to account: their views on Europe and immigration are going to be of little use as Kent County Councillors when they should be fighting to get action for their area.
"The Shepway Liberal Democrats will continue to fight for local people, work to get action for our local area, and talk about issues that will actually make a difference here: better services, boosting regeneration and business, protecting our environment and giving local people a real say in local decisions."
