Many thanks are due to the Salvation Army from the people of Folkestone for their support for those affected by the earthquake on Saturday. Around 400 people, were helped by The Salvation Army following the aftermath of the earthquake on Saturday morning. The Salvation Army church and community centre in Canterbury Road, Foord, in the area of Folkestone most affected by the quake, which measured 4.3 on the Richter Scale.

Many people had had to leave their homes before they had breakfast when the tremors started at around 8.18am. The Salvation Army was already open and serving food and drink so there were refreshments available as soon as people arrived.

Within hours, The Salvation Army's emergency mobile response vehicle based at the regional headquarters in Maidstone was on site. The vehicle comes equipped with its own electricity generator and gas supply which meant food and drink could be dispensed while mains supplies to the area were unavailable.

The Salvation Army served lunch for 80 people on Saturday, offered three families of 13 people accommodation in the Salvation Army church and community centre on Saturday night, provided Sunday lunch for 30 and tea for 10 on Sunday.

During the weekend and into Monday The Salvation Army centre, continued to provide a place of rest and refreshments for emergency services personnel, including police and fire officers, who were continuing to work in the area.

Many thanks to the Salvation Army for their support to all affected residents.
