The Liberal Democrat Six Priorities for Kent
Covid-19 has highlighted the value of caring for each other. Now we need to care for those most affected by the pandemic and help them recover - NHS staff, care workers, those that care for family members, children with disrupted schooling, people with mental health challenges and many more. At the same time, we will aspire to a better quality of life for all, with clean air and green space that everyone can appreciate.
These are the key priorities of Liberal Democrat councillors for Kent:

| We will ensure that care services are tailored to each individual's needs. We will help care workers get the support and recognition they deserve. We will provide voluntary carers with better support and respite breaks. | We want public open space to be protected and enhanced, with better access for disabled persons. We will provide more electric vehicle chargers. We will crack down on polluters. We will restrict the use of dangerous herbicides and pesticides. | |||

| We will press for every child to have access to a good nursery. We will give schools the help they need, so every child can thrive in the classroom and get a good start in life. We will make special needs assessments easier and quicker. | We will help people lead more active and healthy lives. We will strengthen nursing support for infants and at schools. We will make it easier for children and young persons to get mental health support. | |||

| We will promote 20mph as the default speed limit in residential areas, shopping districts and around schools. We will press for more effective police enforcement of speed limits and action against danderous and anti-social parking. | We aim to restore bus services, adding new routes where needed. We will promote transport integration and network-wide ticketing. We will encourage workplace travel plans, which take cars off the road. |

Liberal Democrat County Council candidate for Cheriton, Sandgate and Hythe East Tim Prater said:
"These priorities give a clear idea of what the Liberal Democrats seek to do at County Hall: to help our County build back together from Covid. We both need to ensure we have both a caring community, and care for our community.
"A priority that really speaks to me locally is a 20mph default speed limit.
"Outside our primary and secondary schools, in our residential roads, and even in roads such as Sandgate High Street, 20 really would be plenty. The speeds some vehicles are travelling is outrageous, and we shouldn't have to wait until someone dies to tackle it.
"It's time that Kent County Council supported an area wide reduction in the speed limit and enforcement that would make it stick. I'm pleased to see trials in places like Faversham: the rest of the County should get our chance too.
"I've campaigned for, and won, traffic safety measures includng zebra crossings, improved lining and signing, and interactive speed signs locally. We now need to go further, and make sure we have the right speed limits in our local roads, and the ability to enforce them properly. If elected back to County Hall, that would be a top priority for our area."
