The Sort of Country We Want to Be

I don't know about you, but I am sick to death of statistics, numbers, one side saying in and one saying out. What or who do people believe? It's confusing, frustrating, and leaves people more confused than they were when this whole fiasco started.

It's made more difficult when you have a ruling Conservative party split down the middle, fighting and squabbling, calling each other names, and becoming more primary school like as the days go on, and I fear it will get worse in the days to come as people start to panic, so hold on to your hats...

Over the last few months, all I've heard are the problems of being in the EU, how millions of people have the right to live here, and we need to take control of our borders.

Now forgive me for asking where these fears come from, and why? No wonder the out campaign didn't want Nigel Farage to be their leader, it's all the man talks about. Remember, according to Nigel, 27 million Romanians were going to come and live here 18 months ago. Well it didn't happen. There is no difference in me saying, that 70 million British people have decided to go and live in France, or, we have all decided to go and live in Spain because the weather is warmer and house prices are much cheaper. Well, its not going to happen is it, so why are we so worried that this will happen here?

When it comes to the economy, not one, not one single independent expert body has said leaving is economically a good idea. In fact, they have all said we need to stay. This is unprecedented. The leave campaign are trying to tell you that they don't want their support anyway. What a totally stupid thing to say. Experts around the world are saying this is damaging to our economy, why are we not listening? Because the leave campaign are just concentrating on immigration, immigration, immigration.

We have been part of the Common Market and the EU for over 40 years. We are now the 5th wealthiest country in the world. There are more people employed than ever before, and the lowest unemployment for years. We are free to go and live and work anywhere in Europe. Our young people are free to go and work and study anywhere within the European union. We have a minimum wage, a good benefits system, and an NHS that is the envy of the world. If this isn't good enough, what exactly is it that we want? Control of our borders? We have control of our borders, that's why there are over 5,000 people living in filth and squalor just 23 miles away in Calais. Are we proud of this? Well I'm not.

To me, being IN is not about immigration, it is not about the economy. It is about what sort of Country we want to be.

The world is a scary and threatening place, and global peace has to be everyone's priority. Terrorism threatens every Country in the world, as we well know. Tackling this can only ever be achieved by working with people, together. Do we really think this can be achieved in isolation? Of course not.

I want a safe future for our children and grandchildren. I want a future that is broad, where they are free to travel and work, with open horizons and for them to achieve the best they can possibly achieve for our society.

Has being in the EU damaged our Country or our society? No, it has enhanced our way of life, it has staffed our NHS. It has picked our fruit and worked our farms, and cares for our elderly. It has boosted our economy by billions of pounds. Leaving is taking us backwards over 40 years. The future is together and stronger, safer, and better off.

Politicians know that to make people vote, you either have to make them scared, or angry. Don't fall for it.

We have a wonderful Country, lets keep it that way. Gambling with our future is a risk even Lord Sugar wont take. We need to stay.
