The Threat to Folkestone's K College
Following West Kent College's recent takeover of the former South Kent campuses, the writing is on the wall that the newly rebranded 'K College' will sell off the Folkestone Campus with maybe Ashford shortly to follow suit.
After promising to keep every campus open and serving its community, K College managers it seems, are set to close down Folkestone and sell off the land to developers.
The Principal of K College pointed towards finding unexpected high levels of debt across all its colleges in Kent as an explanation for such devastating action. It is understood the unexpected level of debt runs into many millions.
The recent resignation of the Financial Vice-Principal has prompted many questions to be asked about how the college's finances were being managed.
Although the Folkestone K College campus was due to have some developments in the future, it now looks likely the K College managers based at Tonbridge will choose to sell off the Folkestone College to eager Developers desperate to buy the land.
Why the young people of Folkestone have to be punished and deprived of their popular College is a question the Principal must answer. Condemning a whole Town's generation to such an uncertain and deprived future is certainly the wrong decision, especially caused by financial mismanagement.
The 'Save K College' campaign is hoping to change the Governors' minds and we will be urging all students, staff, family and friends plus all residents of Shepway to show they will not allow their College to be destroyed by the mistakes of the Managers.
