This time, running THROUGH Harvey West, Sandgate and East Hythe...
Until this time last year, I hadn't run since school (and those who knew me at school will know that I ran as little as possible there too). Then last April, I started to diet. In June, I started the "Couch to 5km" to help with that diet. I completed that in August, and have kept up running, a couple of times a week, exceedingly slowly, since. And yes, the diet worked: between the exercise, eating less and drinking less, I've lost about 4.5 stone, and on a really good day, by BMI is no longer overweight...
Now, May has worked out REALLY well for me so far. In the elections on 2nd May, I was delighted and honoured to be elected as a District Councillor for Sandgate and West Folkestone, a Sandgate Parish Councillor, Folkestone Town Councillor for Harvey West, and Hythe Town Councillor for Hythe East. So now I'm going to push my luck. A lot.
The morning of Sunday 26th May is the Folkestone Coastal 10km run. I'm going to try do it - it's at the edge of my range, and I'll take around 70 minutes. That's really slow, but *possibly* not last!
The route takes in Folkestone Harvey West, Sandgate, and Hythe East: having run for each of them over the past few months, and been elected to them on May 2nd, I 'm going to try to run through them all on 26th May!
I was going to do it "silently", but having asked friends, it seems a good opportunity to raise money if possible for some local charities too. I've had a number suggested, but have picked the Folkestone Rainbow Centre for their work on supporting the homeless and most vulnerable in our area, and the East Kent Pilgrims Hospices, giving care and support for people coping with incurable illnesses in East Kent.
Any sponsorship I receive will be split between those two charities. It won't make me run quicker (NOTHING can make me run quicker!) but it would make a real difference to those charities. If you are around the course on Sunday 26th, please do cheer all the runners on: even the really slow ones at the back, looking quite pained..
Thank you!
